Botanical Study Yarn Club - Evelina

Welcome to the Botanical Study Yarn Club. With this club we will be exploring various natural dyeing plants creating with them gorgeous, botanically dyed yarns.

This listing is to order this month's colorway Evelina, dyed with the leaves of Tree of Heaven.

For July, I chose once more a tree. Like the Golden Rain from last month’s club, this tree is as well a great natural dyeing source, also great for ecoprinting, the only difference is that this tree is extremely invasive, which leaves me with a bittersweet feeling about it.

The said tree is the Tree of Heaven (Alianthus Altisima), and it makes me wonder how they came up with this name for it, as although one could say it has a place in a natural dyer’s heaven, it is not as heavenly for the environment.

From the dyer’s perspective, an invasive plant offers an abundance of dye source, and the leaves of the Tree of Heaven dye beautiful vibrant yellows, greens with a grey undertone and grey colors, a decent variety of colors i would say.

Linen Breeze gets dyed similarly to Bamboo/Linen, and wool is similar to Sappho.
